Even though it’s “the most wonderful time of the year”, holiday season can come with its fair share of chaos. Decorating the house, preparing food for the whole family, wrapping gifts… Shouldn’t we say “the most stressful time of the year” instead?

When life gets so busy, it’s important to take some time for ourselves to simply step back, unwind and indulge in some self-care rituals… or treats. Moments full of self-love and flavours that will help us get centred, then back on track.

For our latest collaborator, food stylist and photographer Isabelle Cheng, those me-moments are essential. As a content creator that constantly travels around the world for work, she needs to take time for her health – and happiness! – daily. And a bottle of RISE is the perfect companion when it’s time to indulge in those precious moments.

Isabelle Cheng Gingerbread Float RISE Kombucha

What was your initial inspiration for the photo?
Since it was the Holidays, I wanted to incorporate a way to make celebrating a little healthier, while still feeling perfectly indulgent. The gingerbread kombucha float was the perfect choice, as an ice cream float has been a childhood favourite of mine, but I definitely find soda too sweet for me these days. Replacing it with kombucha was a way for me to enjoy it again, but the ice cream and gingerbread cookies don’t make me feel like I’m missing out either. Plus, I love the fizz from the kombucha and the extra ginger kick! It feels like a more grown up and sophisticated version, while still maintaining the playful nature of the dessert.

What does your usual creative process look like for a project like this one?
I definitely draw a lot of inspiration from things that are current or in season at the moment. Something that I create in winter would be drastically different than if it were spring, summer, or fall. Finally, I like to create things that are approachable and relatable. I’ve always been about capturing everyday moments, but showcasing them in a way that shows off how there is beauty in simplicity.

At RISE, we know life can become a little chaotic when you’re a photographer on the go with so many projects at the same time. What do you do to maintain a balanced lifestyle and take care of yourself?
I wake up super early every morning. I mean really early. I’m talking 4:30am early. It’s usually the only time during the day where I have quiet time to myself. I like to light a candle, read, and hopefully squeeze in a quick workout before the day starts. Sometimes it is the only time I have to myself, so I cherish those early mornings and really look forward to them.

What does RISE inspire you?
RISE reminds me that it is all about the little things in life that can make a huge difference. Sometimes you have a goal and it seems impossibly large and daunting, but it you break it down into little tasks it becomes so much more attainable. Like if I want to be healthier, it can be as simple as reaching for a RISE Kombucha instead of a sugary beverage. Over time, these small changes get you to your goal.
